Finding Peace in Uncertainty: You Are Not Alone

Hi Reader,

I've been thinking about you during these shifting times.

We're in a time of great change - a period of uncertainty and transition that has left no stone unturned.

There's so much upheaval in our lives - from governments that feel like they're crumbling, to old ways of being that are simply falling away before our very eyes. It can often feel like nothing is stable, there's nothing to hold onto anymore.

Our view of who we are and what we're meant to do in this world feels upended. The ground is no longer as stable as it used to be. Or perhaps it was always an illusion anyway.

We're entering a new world. One none of us have experienced before. We don't know what comes next.

The In-Between Space

So many of us are in this in-between state at the moment. That sense of the old falling away and the new just on the horizon. But right now, it all feels muddied, messy, confusing, or uncertain.

There's a fog overhead and for most of us it's hard to see what's coming out on the other side.

I've felt the fog closing in on me - and then also felt days and moments of clarity come through in between. Those blissful snippets of creativity and blossoming that feel so uplifting and energizing.

I am right here, with you, in this uncertainty. We all are.

And it's up to us to remain present throughout. To not try and numb the pain or discomfort with our usual means - food, drinking, medicating, or over-exerting ourselves at work or in household chores. We need to be present for this. To feel everything that's uncomfortable so we can also experience the shift when it comes.

You Are Not Alone

You are not alone. There are nearly 600 of you right here reading this today, recognizing even a piece of your own story in this sharing, and let me remind you how truly not alone you are.

Even though this feels overwhelming, all is not lost. This is a time of great change - of deciding for something new. Of letting all those pieces of your life that were no longer fitting to fall away, and allowing the uncertainty to sit quietly beside you as you wait for what isn't yet fully formed.

It can feel frustrating. We want to know the plan and what steps we need to take. We want to be guided towards certainty. And yet, the harder you push to get there, the less certain you may feel.

This transition requires great patience. It requires you to double down on trusting yourself to make the right decisions when you need to. It requires you to believe that you already have everything you need - and to sit in the discomfort of the unknown.

So much is unknown. And yet, there is a part of you, deep down inside, that simply knows that what's unfolding will bring you exactly where you want to go. Even as you question what exactly that will look like.

Three Practices for Staying Centered

If you're feeling particularly overwhelmed by this period of transition, here are three practices I personally use when feeling adrift:

  1. Rage on the Page Write out all your emotions on paper without editing or judging. Read it back, honor what you're feeling, and speak kindly to yourself. If it feels right, safely burn the paper to release these feelings to the universe.
  2. Nature Walk Find a spot in nature that grounds you. Connect with the feeling of earth beneath your feet and the air around you. Touch a tree or the ground, ask for guidance, and remember you are held and safe.
  3. Hum As my recent podcast guest Charlene Huskinson shared, humming reconnects us to our voice and helps regulate our nervous system. It's simple - just hum any tune you like!

Embracing the Fog

So don't fight the fogginess. Don't try with might and force to clear the cloudy feeling. Accept what is in this moment and simply trust that you already have all the tools you need to get you where you need to go. You've been preparing for this moment your entire life.

And soon enough, when that uncertainty clears and the path ahead feels clear again - you will know exactly which way to walk.

It is coming. And it's all happening for you.

Hi Reader, Sometimes it takes coming back home to remember not only who we are, but how much we've grown. I'm writing this from my hotel room in NYC, just a block from where I worked my first job and seven blocks from my very first "adult" apartment. I'm an hour away from my childhood home, surrounded by the people, places, and memories that shaped me. And something magical is happening - I'm remembering who I am. The girl who protected slugs from her classmates. Who had a favorite tree in...

My conversation with coach and wilderness guide Caitlin Cockerton reveals how reconnecting with nature can profoundly heal not just our inner landscapes, but transform our approach to leadership, creativity, and personal growth. Caitlin's journey from growing up on a Canadian farm to corporate consulting and finally returning to her nature-based roots demonstrates how we often come full circle to...
